Partner & social dance events across Vermont.

Privacy Policy

Last Updated: November 28, 2025
Version: 1.3

Who We Are

Your Dance Card is operated by Fifty-Fifty: Partners in Dance, LLC, a Vermont-based business. We run yourdancecard.com as a free, community-driven calendar of social partner dance events in Vermont.

Our mission is simple: make it easy for dancers to find events and for organizers to reach their audience. We centralize information about contra dances, swing dances, salsa, fusion, and other partner dance events that would otherwise be scattered across Facebook, email lists, and individual websites.

This privacy policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

The Short Version

What we collect: Email addresses for event submissions and optional accounts, names and contact info you provide when submitting events, and basic usage statistics.

How we use it: To run the calendar, send you confirmations, and improve the service.

What we share: Event information is public. We use Supabase (database), Vercel (hosting), and Resend (email). We don't sell data or use it for advertising.

Your rights: You can access, correct, or delete your information at any time by contacting us.

Read on for complete details.

What This Policy Covers

This privacy policy applies when you:

  • Visit yourdancecard.com
  • Submit an event to the calendar
  • Create an account (optional)
  • Receive emails from us
  • Interact with our service in any other way

About Our Service:

Your Dance Card is currently free for all users. We may introduce optional paid features in the future, such as enhanced analytics for event organizers. Any such changes will be clearly communicated and remain optional. This privacy policy will be updated to reflect any new features that affect how we handle data.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide Directly

When you submit an event:

  • Event details (title, description, date, time, location, dance styles)
  • Organizer name and contact email
  • Venue name and physical address
  • Optional: organizer phone number, event website, cost information

For events at private residences: We treat home addresses differently from commercial venues. When you submit an event at a private residence, we ask whether you want the full address displayed publicly. By default, we show only "Private residence - [City/Town]" and provide a way for interested dancers to contact you for full details. This reduces safety and privacy risks associated with publicly listing home addresses.

If you are not the host of a residential event but want to share it with the community, we will list the event in a redacted format and may require verification before publishing.

When you create an account (optional):

  • Email address
  • Name
  • Password (stored encrypted - we never see your actual password)

When you contact us:

  • Whatever information you choose to include in your message

Information We Collect Automatically

Technical data:

  • IP addresses (logged temporarily by our hosting provider for security)
  • Access timestamps
  • HTTP request details

Our hosting provider (Vercel) keeps these server logs for security and troubleshooting, then automatically deletes them according to their retention policy.

Security and abuse prevention: When you use our forms (including anonymous submissions), our systems may record additional technical information such as IP address, browser type, and timestamps. We use this information to:

  • Keep the service secure
  • Prevent abuse and spam
  • Investigate harmful, illegal, or abusive content if necessary
  • Comply with legal obligations when required

For example, if someone attempts to use our submission forms to share harmful, illegal, or abusive content, we may use IP and related technical logs to investigate and, where required, cooperate with law enforcement.

We do not keep these logs longer than reasonably necessary for security and abuse-prevention purposes. Submission-related IP logs are typically retained for up to 90 days and then deleted or anonymized, unless we are required to preserve them longer for legal or security reasons. We do not permanently attach IP addresses to published events—they are used only for internal security and abuse handling.

Usage analytics We use Plausible Analytics for privacy-focused website analytics. Plausible doesn't track individuals, doesn't use cookies, and provides only aggregate statistics (like "50 people viewed the events page today").

Information We Don't Collect

We do NOT collect:

  • Credit card information (the service is free)
  • Precise geolocation data
  • Browsing history outside our site
  • Social media activity
  • Information from data brokers or third parties
  • Any sensitive personal information (health data, financial records, etc.)

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

Operate the calendar:

  • Display event listings publicly
  • Process event submissions
  • Moderate content for appropriateness
  • Maintain the accuracy of event information

Communicate with you:

  • Send confirmation emails when you submit an event
  • Notify you about the status of your submission (approved, needs revision, etc.)
  • Respond to your questions or support requests
  • Send optional updates about the service (if you opt in)

Improve the service:

  • Analyze aggregate usage patterns to understand what features are useful
  • Fix bugs and troubleshoot technical issues
  • Plan new features based on community needs

Comply with legal obligations:

  • Respond to valid legal requests
  • Enforce our terms of service
  • Protect against fraud or abuse

We do NOT:

  • Sell your data
  • Use your data for advertising or marketing third-party products
  • Share your data with advertisers
  • Track you across other websites
  • Build profiles for behavioral advertising

Public Display of Information

Your Dance Card Is a Public Calendar

This is important: Event information you submit is publicly displayed on yourdancecard.com for anyone to view. This includes:

  • Event title, description, date, time, location
  • Organizer name and contact email
  • Venue name and (depending on venue type) physical address
  • Any other details you include in your submission

This information is visible to:

  • Anyone who visits the website (no account required)
  • Search engines that index our site
  • Anyone who shares links to events

Why it's public: The whole point of Your Dance Card is to help people find dance events. Making event information publicly accessible serves this community benefit.

Critical: Private Residence Addresses

Events at private homes are more sensitive than events at studios, bars, or public venues. We treat them differently on purpose.

By default, when you submit an event at a private residence:

  • We store the full address internally for verification and communication
  • We display only a redacted version publicly, such as "Private residence – [City/Town]"
  • We may link to an external event page where you have chosen to publish the full address

If you are the host and explicitly opt in, we may show the full address on Your Dance Card, but we will:

  • Warn you clearly about the risks of publishing your home address
  • Mark the listing as a private residence so dancers understand what they're attending
  • Honor any later request from you to remove or re-redact the address

If someone else submits a residential event that you host:

  • We will always use a redacted display for your address
  • We may verify the listing before publishing
  • We will honor removal or redaction requests from occupants promptly

If you live at a private residence that appears in a listing on Your Dance Card, you can ask us to either:

  • Hide your full address on Your Dance Card (showing only "Private residence – [City/Town]"), or
  • Remove the event listing from Your Dance Card entirely

We'll process reasonable occupant requests as quickly as we can, and will also stop re-aggregating that event from external sources, even though we cannot control listings on other websites.

Removing Your Event Information

Your Dance Card lists events in two main ways:

  • Events that you or your organization submit directly through the site
  • Events that we add from public sources (for example, your website or a public Facebook page)

Because of that, removal works a little differently depending on how the event was created.

If you submitted the event directly

If you (or your organization) submitted an event through Your Dance Card:

  • You will be able to edit or remove your event through your account once organizer tools are available.
  • Until then, you can email us and we will update or remove the listing for you.

In either case, we may ask you to confirm that you are connected to the event or organizer before making changes.

Scrubbing personal information: In some cases, when you request removal of a direct submission, we may offer to remove your personal submitter information (name, email, account association) while keeping the event listing based on publicly available information about the event. This helps maintain comprehensive community coverage while respecting your privacy preferences.

If we added your event from a public source

If we listed your event based on publicly available information (for example, your website, a public Facebook page, or another public calendar), we treat that as part of our role as a community directory.

  • We generally do not remove accurate listings of public events solely because they are aggregated here.
  • We handle corrections, updates, and removal requests for these listings according to our Listing Policy, which balances comprehensive coverage with genuine privacy and safety concerns.

We will always take removal or modification requests seriously where there is a real privacy or safety concern (for example, events at private residences, unlisted addresses that were posted in error, or specific safety issues such as stalking or harassment).
